Tablets are commonly manufactured by the application of a compaction pressure on a powder bed held in a confined state. On critical quality attribute of a tablet is the tensile strength which is a function the amount of compaction pressure applied to the powder bed. Derivation of a tablet tensile strength – compaction pressure (SPR) profile is, however, a tedious work that requires large amounts of material, which can be limited during formulation development. A promising approach for prediction SPR profiles has previously been presented in the literature. The aim of this project is to study the applicability of the model to powders with varying properties. The experimental work includes powder compression for analysis of Heckel and Kawakita compression parameters, generation of SPR profiles by compaction in addition to standard powder characterisation. The prediction will be made using the experimentally determined compression parameters according to a three-stage model representing the SPR. It is expected that the project will bring knowledge on the suitability of the prediction approach for assessing SPR profiles for various powders
