Solute Carriers (SLCs) are the largest family of transporters in human and an important class of drug targets. There are over 500 known transporters from the SLC family and a large part of these, around 30 % have unknown biological function. This project focuses on functional characterization of amino acid transporters in the nervous system, regarding expression patterns, where in the cells the transporter is expressed and in which signaling pathways it plays role. The project uses quantitative real time PCR, immunohistochemistry, Western Blotting and ELISA among other techniques, although all techniques will not be used in all projects. The detailed scientific question will be developed with the supervisor when the project starts.
