The practice of medicinal chemistry involves the design and synthesis of biologically active compounds with the overall aim of discovering new therapeutics for the treatment of disease. In our research groups, we have numerous ongoing projects aimed at the optimization of small molecules and peptide-based hit molecules for the treatment of infectious diseases, neurological disorders and cancer. These projects generally involve the interplay of fundamental synthesis principles and biological properties to solve medicinal chemistry challenges in an interdisciplinary environment.
In this project, you will work in collaboration with an experienced researcher to design and synthesize potential drug candidates.
As part of our research group, you will be introduced to various aspects of practical laboratory work, database searching and gain hands-on experience with analytical techniques such as HPLC-MS and NMR spectroscopy. We are looking for enthusiastic and inquisitive students to join our research group and work with us towards the ultimate goal of preparing a scientific publication.
For students who have completed 3FK219 Computational Medicinal Chemistry, the project can also include computer-based modeling in its entirety or as part of the project.
All written submissions and oral presentations are conducted in English.
