There are possibilities for one master projects at KI Solna through our collaboration with the research group of prof Per Johan Jakobsson. Positions will be filled after interview with the supervisor in place, dr Helena Idborg.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease characterized by inflammatory joints. Excessive levels of prostaglandins, potent lipid signaling molecules involved in inflammation and immune response, are found in RA patients. Current treatment primarily involves nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), which indiscriminately inhibit prostaglandin production through COX inhibition but come with undesirable side effects.

This study investigates the effects of pure compounds extracted from Chinese medical plants and inhibitors on prostaglandin profiles. Methods include whole blood assay, protein precipitation, and solid phase extraction, followed by analysis using LC-MS/MS.
